Public Safety

This area oversees all public safety functions, including the police department (patrol, investigations, 911 center, and airport badging), the fire department, and emergency planning. Police Chief Mike Everson heads this department and reports directly to Chief Operating Officer, Roy Fuhrmann.

The Airport Police Department consists of patrol, investigations, narcotics and narcotic canines, explosive detection canines, security, training and administration functions. The department includes the Chief of Police, Mike Everson, deputy chiefs, lieutenants, sergeants, officers, investigators, administrative support staff, and traffic control agents. The goal of the department is to prevent and detect crime, deter terrorism, protect life and property, and preserve peace, order and safety.
The Airport Police Department works closely with federal agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Customs and Border Patrol, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to prevent crimes and enforce laws that help protect national safety and security.  The department also maintains mutual aid agreements with other local, county and state police departments.
The MSP Airport Police Department was one of the first in the nation to establish a citizen Airport Watch program. In addition, the Airport Police Department oversees the MAC’s Emergency Communications (911 dispatch) activities.
