Emergency Communications Center provides critical services at MSP 24/7
The MAC's ECC takes calls that save lives
Calls to 911 on the MSP Airport campus are routed to the Metropolitan Airports Commission’s Emergency Communications Center (ECC), where the 12-member team answered more than 97,000 calls last year.
The center recently marked National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and MSP passengers can be thankful for all the life-saving services that the ECC provides around-the-clock.
The dispatchers in the ECC also monitor the airport’s vast network of video cameras, fire alarms and secure card access points, and send airport police and fire department teams to those in need.
Earlier this spring, two members of the MAC’s ECC team were recognized for their role in saving a woman’s life during a call in 2022. The transfer call came in from the Federal Communication Commission’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, connecting the ECC to a woman on the airport campus. The ECC employees were able to identify the caller’s location and dispatch emergency responders who were able to find her within minutes.
