Our Purpose

Our Purpose and Strategic Plan

For more than 80 years, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has worked to make the Minneapolis-St. Paul region a thriving hub. At its core, the MAC aims to connect the Twin Cities region to the world while providing the best customer experience. A dynamic organization committed to continuous improvement, the MAC strives to operate sustainably and respond to the opportunities and challenges facing the aviation industry.

In 2022, the MAC approved the 2023-2027 Enterprise Strategic Plan, which outlines the organization’s purpose, values and focus areas. The purpose statement defines why the MAC exists and how we positively impact our region and those we serve. It guides everything we do.

Our plan in action

A leader in on-time performance

MSP’s Airside Operations Department and its partners on the airfield – the airlines and the FAA – work diligently to keep flight operations on-time. The MAC’s Field Maintenance team plays an essential role, most visibly in the winter, to help stay ahead of the weather. MSP earned a rare double win in Cirium’s 2023 On-Time Performance Review, garnering the top global airport and large airport awards for on-time performance.

      Pentair partnership promotes water reuse

Pentair is now the official water sponsor of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). The new partnership launched with the debut of 10 new HOPE Hydration HydroStations in both of the airport’s terminals — the first water refill stations of their kind at any airport worldwide. Each station also provides an interactive experience about the positive environmental impact people can make by filling a reusable water bottle, with a focus on sustainability while traveling. Pentair is now the official water sponsor of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Advancing the future of aviation fuels in Minnesota

The MAC is a supporting partner in a first-of-its-kind coalition in Minnesota to scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for commercial aviation. Led by GREATER MSP, the Minnesota SAF Hub includes a prominent roster of corporate, government and regional institutions that collaborate on strategies to produce, process and deliver SAF on a scale that will significantly offset or replace the use of conventional jet fuel. Additionally, MSP is actively taking steps to reduce its own carbon footprint and recently achieved Level 3 in the Airport Carbon Accreditation program.

Expanding business partnerships

We are expanding our partnerships with businesses from diverse backgrounds, including our Targeted Group Business (TGB) program. These businesses must be at least 51% owned by a woman, racial minority, or person with a substantial physical disability. At our annual TGB Expo, MAC employees network with diverse vendors and suppliers interested in working with the MAC.
