MAC Reliever Airports summer events bring the season to life
As summer approaches so does a long list of events at the Reliever Airports operated by the Metropolitan Airports Commission. From the Air Expo at Flying Cloud Airport, which is a must-see airshow, to the Aircraft Viewing Area open houses, you’ll find events to provide fun for all ages.
The Reliever events start June 1 and run through end of September, so mark your calendar, grab some sunscreen and get out to an airport. Visit our events website or refer to the information below to guide you to summer fun.
June 1 – Crystal Airport (MIC) holds an open house for its aircraft viewing area on Thursday, June 1. Crystal’s viewing area puts you close to the action on the airfield. Find a map of the location here.
June 18 – Crystal Airport hosts its annual Father’s Day Fly-In. The event, which is open to the public, includes airplane and helicopter rides for a fee, aircraft displays, children’s activities and fly-overs.
June 27 – Airlake Airport’s aircraft viewing area open house. Use this map to guide you to the viewing area.

July 22&23 – A crowd favorite for years, celebrate the heart of summer with a weekend at the Wings of the North Air Expo at Flying Cloud Airport. View classic aircraft cruising the skies over Eden Prairie, with airplanes available for tours, children’s activities, dozens of fly-overs and hangars with aviation-related displays.
September 13 – Flying Cloud Airport hosts its aircraft viewing area open house. Watch the air traffic at Flying Cloud, at the viewing area located near the northwest corner of the airfield.
September 23 – Mark this Saturday on your calendar and get ready for Girls in Aviation Day at Flying Cloud Airport. This annual event, sponsored by Women in Aviation International, provides youth an opportunity to see what types of careers are available in aviation.
September 27 – Anoka County-Blaine Airport holds an open house for its aircraft viewing area. Follow this map to the site.
