Metropolitan Airports Commission opens public comment period for Airlake Airport draft environmental review
The public is invited to review the draft EA/EAW and submit comments through Oct. 30.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has opened a public comment period following the release of a draft environmental assessment (EA) and environmental assessment worksheet (EAW) for proposed improvements at Airlake Airport (LVN) in Lakeville, Minnesota.
The environmental review evaluates the potential effects of several proposed projects, including a proposed extension of Runway 12-30 and related airport enhancements. The initial analysis identified no significant impacts on the surrounding natural, social and economic environment.
The public is invited to review the draft EA/EAW and submit comments through 5 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2026. The document is available on the MAC’s Airlake Airport project website at metroairports.org/lvn-environmental-assessment.
Key project elements included in the evaluation are:
- Reconstruction of Runway 12-30 pavement
- Extension of Runway 12-30 from 4,099 feet to 4,850 feet
- Improvements to meet current Federal Aviation Administration design standards
- Mitigation of airspace obstructions and incompatible land uses requiring 30 tree removals
- Expansion of the fixed-base operator (FBO) apron
- Modifications to navigational aids and relocation of a stream to accommodate airport improvements
The MAC will also hold a public hearing on Oct. 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. during its Planning, Development and Environment Committee meeting at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Conference Center in Terminal 1, 4300 Glumack Drive, St. Paul, MN 55111.
Written comments may be submitted by email to LVNEA@mspmac.org, provided at the public hearing, or mailed to:
