MSP Airport Fire Department to conduct live fire training
Federally required training will not impact flight operations
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Fire Department will conduct live fire training Monday, May 11 through Thursday, May 14. It is possible that members of the public in the vicinity of the northwest end of the airfield could see smoke and flames coming from the controlled training exercise, which will occur primarily during daytime hours.
This annual training exercise uses a mobile aircraft fire trainer with a propane gas system to simulate conditions responders may face during an emergency. The training is required by federal regulations. It will not impact aircraft operations.
On the final day of training, the MSP Fire Department will host the Minneapolis Fire Department for mutual aid cross‑training. The exercise will give City of Minneapolis firefighters hands‑on experience with aircraft firefighting tactics and familiarize them with airfield emergency response procedures.
