Helicopter Activity Near MSP This Week

November 15, 2021

Residents near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) in Mendota Heights may notice unusual helicopter activity for the next 2-3 days.

A project to install power line equipment off of the departure end of Runway 12L began this morning. The installation is likely to result in a helicopter operating at low altitudes, making multiple patterns over the specific area to complete the work. The work is expected to occur on an East-West power line between the Minnesota River and the Mendakota Country Club. The activity may also include a landing near Resurrection Cemetery if necessary.

The aircraft using MSP will be assigned to runways by Air Traffic Control (ATC) to keep them properly separated from this helicopter. The helicopter crew will remain in contact with ATC for the extent of the flight. Work is expected to continue through Wednesday, November 17. (photo credit: CBS)
