MSP Airport

Welcome to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)

Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport (MSP) is the Metropolitan Airports Commission’s flagship facility. MSP plays a vital role in helping the Twin Cities community thrive and is routinely ranked among North America’s best and most efficient airports. While MSP is the commercial airport hub for the Twin Cities and surrounding area, Signature Flight Support does offer fixed-base operator (FBO) services at MSP, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Long-Term Comprehensive Plan

All of the MAC’s seven airports – including MSP – develop long-term comprehensive plans that project passenger and airplane take-offs and landings 20 years into the future. The goal is to determine what infrastructure improvements, if any, will be needed to best serve our customers. A MSP Stakeholder Advisory Panel was formed in 2019 to enlist help from many neighbors and stakeholders throughout the planning process.

MSP 2020 Improvements Environmental Assessment and Worksheet

Upon the adoption of the 2020 MSP Long-Term Comprehensive Plan in 2010, the MAC and the Federal Aviation Administration completed a joint Environmental Assessment / Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EA/EAW). The EA/EAW was completed in 2013 in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA).

Noise Management

The MAC and MSP has one of the most comprehensive noise mitigation programs of any airport system in the U.S. For decades, the MAC has worked closely with Twin Cities communities, airport operators and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reduce aircraft noise around MSP.

We gather sound levels at 39 sites around MSP, maintain a FlightTracker for the public to view flights in near real time, hold regular listening sessions for neighbors to air their concerns, provide sound-proofing for homes close to MSP, and work with pilots and the FAA to develop strategies to reduce airplane noise.

In addition, the advisory MSP Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) -- which is made up of community representatives and aviation industry representatives -- also allows neighbors to express concerns about airplane noise.

Pilot Resources

While MSP is the commercial airport hub for the Twin Cities and surrounding area, Signature Flight Support does offer fixed-base operator (FBO) services at MSP. Corporate and general aviation pilots, however, are encouraged to use one of the MAC’s six "reliever" airports when possible.

The MAC and MSP – working together with communities, aircraft operators and the Federal Aviation Administration – have developed several resources for pilots.
