Airport Improvements

The Lake Elmo Airport long term planning process and its associated environmental assessment are now complete. The entire process took place between mid-2015 and November 2018 and resulted in the Federal Aviation Administration's finding of no significant environmental impact.

The next step in making improvements to the airport is now underway - preparing construction documents for the bidding of work to begin in late 2019.

In summary, planned improvements between 2019 and 2021 include:
  • Construction of a new main runway in a location several hundred feet northwest of its current location
  • Realignment of 30th Street North to accommodate the new runway's protection zone
  • Converting the old  runway into a taxiway and reconfiguring other taxiways
The airport has not received any significant improvements over the 50 years since the MAC took ownership. These projects will bring the airport's infrastructure up to today's standards in its category.
