Creative Variance

The primary purpose of the Design Standards and Guidelines is to act as the reference for an orderly and aesthetically coordinated approach to airport design. However, the MAC encourages Designers to recommend alternates when deviations from the guidelines would be beneficial. Recommendations should be brought directly to airport development and if to be adopted as a standard submitted following the MAC Design and Construction Standards update procedure.

While the standards specify requirements for products, procedures, and technical criteria, they are not intended to be overly prescriptive or to dictate all future design choices. Instead, they serve as a foundational guide, permitting the selection of alternative products and systems, provided that any proposed deviations receive prior approval from the MAC.
