Overview

The purpose of this Standards Manual is to clearly outline the MAC’s procedures for design and construction, establishing the requirements for materials and building systems. These standards apply to development on MAC-owned property and are specific to the type of project and the ownership of the building.

This is a living document, regularly revised and updated as needed, to address the general, conceptual, design, and technical standards for all areas of airport development. It is referenced in both Design Consultant agreements and Tenant lease agreements and is enforced by the MAC Building Official. As required by Airport Ordinance No. 94, all buildings and remodeling projects must obtain a building permit and comply with these standards.

There are four types of project ownership governed by this manual:

  1. MAC-Owned Projects at MSP: These projects must adhere to the Design and Construction Standards herein.
  2. Tenant Build-Outs at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2: These projects must adhere to the Tenant Design Guidelines and the Design and Construction Standards.
  3. Non-MAC-Owned Projects: These are Tenant-directed developments located on airport-owned property. Application of the Design and Construction Standards shall be defined by the lease agreement.
  4. MAC-Owned Projects at Relievers: These project standards will be defined in its own section in the future. Unless otherwise noted or coordinated with MAC staff will follow these standards.

Consultants are prohibited from reproducing, duplicating, or transmitting any part of this document to other consultants or entities, or using it for non-MAC projects, without the express written consent of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC). All information contained in this manual must be fully incorporated and reflected in bidding and contract documents.
