Definitions

  1. Hazardous Materials: Defined as those materials meeting the definition of “Harmful Physical Agent” or “Hazardous Substance” found in MN Administrative Rules, Ch.5206, Hazardous Substances; Employee Right-to-Know, MN Statue 299A.49, Hazardous Materials; Incident Response; Safety, or a material which has been recognized by state or federal governments as damaging to the environment or human health. 

  2. Friable Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM): Any material that contains more than 1% asbestos by microscopic visual estimation by area, and can be crushed, crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by hand pressure when dry. Friable asbestos material includes previously nonfriable asbestos material which becomes damaged to the extent that when dry all or a portion of the material may be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure 

  3. Lead-Containing Material: Follow the EPA standards for lead-based paint/materials testing and allowable limits. 

  4. Asbestos Survey: MAC has commissioned an independent consultant to maintain an Asbestos Inspection Report within the terminals. This survey is available upon request from Facilities Management. The report should be reviewed by the design consultant for potential asbestos abatement projects. The latest update is available upon request. 

Design consultant and tenant design consultant will be responsible to notify MAC project manager regarding assessment process to be used for determining the scope of hazardous material within their project.
